Ethiopia’s first female President, Zewde has joined the ranks of African women leading history. She was the first woman appointed to head the United Nations Office to the African Union and is currently the only female head of state in Africa.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has raised the standard for gender parity in Ethiopia by appointing a cabinet that includes 10 female ministers out of 20.
